Finally had a minute to put up some photos. Hoping the whole Internet problem has been resolved. Our first night here we had an amazing evening. Took the metro to Union Station and had a fabulous meal. The people were so charming and welcoming, I would go back in a heart beat.
We purchased our week's metro pass, hopped on the red line which is conveniently located next door to our hotel. We are across the street from the Dept of Alcohol and Tobacco, but guess they aren't serving. :-)
When we arrived at Union station we were a little taken back. All we saw was fast food like you would find at a food court. We continued our walk, up the stairs and then saw the beauty that was to be ours for the evening.

I was mesmerized by the pretty staircase. Marble steps and the ornamentation was so simple, yet so dazzling |

First real restaurant we came across, checked the menu, and continued on our search.
We found B Smith's the menu looked creole and I was in the mood to remember New Orleans. Inside we went, and what a treat visually. |

Yes, that's the presidential seal up on the wall. This was the place in Union station where they held the presidents for safe keeping. Built in 1907, it has been restored to such loveliness. |

These are our travel partners. Judy & Ernie. Business associate of the hubs. Very lovely couple. We have traveled with them in the past and enjoyed ourselves so jumped on this when they suggested it. They have a son who is four years younger than me, but if interests are similar, age doesn't seem to matter. |

The light fixtures are original, as are the four presidential seals. I was in awe of the detail of this room and the adjoining ones. The wait staff is very educated in the history of the building and it made the dining experience that much better. The food was fabulous. I ordered the "swamp thang" which doesn't sound very fancy, but the flavors were amazing. Scallops, shrimp, and craw fish all in a sauce with collard greens and crispy onions on top. I wish I could have eaten more. Corn bread and honey butter made it all the comfort of home. |

This was the room that the president would dine in. |

Loved all the detail on the door handles. Right down to the US at the bottom |

Walking back to catch the train. Washington DC is such a clean town, and metro is so efficient. Takes us country bumpkins a day or two to figure out the lines, but we're getting there. The hubs has a new name. "MAP MAN" He's keeping us on track. |

WOW! The architecture is just splendid, & love how you captured all the little/big details SO well! I guess rain is such a big deal (for one we are used to it) when you get to stay inside & explore such historic beauty!
