Friday, last day of being six

Linking up with Lisa at Long Road to China, and Misty & Kim at Through a Photographer's eyes

Words you hear, but some days they hit closer to home. "Where does the time go?"  Today, is the last day that my #1 grandson will be six.

It doesn't seem possible that tomorrow it will be seven years since he came into this world. He is such a special boy, a true love, a delight, a sensitive old soul, and so much more.

I remember the day he joined the family. I remember so many details. His mama waiting patiently in the car while his dad needed food before going to the hospital. I remember my tenseness as I told him to get the lead out and get her to the hospital.  After all it was my baby about to give birth to her first baby.

I remember hearing the bells singing twinkle twinkle little star celebrating the birth our our new star. I remember his sweet face, funny breathing that got him a trip to the special nursery where we watched him like a hawk.

I remember his soft skin, his blue eyes, his tufts of hair. I remember his sweetness of that day, and to be honest not much has changed except he now has the most beautiful head of hair. I would kill to have his hair! Blond, natural wave and curls in the back.

He's getting bigger, he doesn't always need his Tutu like he did when he was smaller. I was so thrilled to receive an early morning phone call yesterday from #1. He told me he didn't have school on Friday, and could he spend the night???

We pulled out all the stops. Pizza for dinner, a movie date, just the two of us, and for breakfast this morning, a tropical smoothie with kale, and a  cinnamon roll.  He tolerated washing his hair, and letting me document his last day of being six years old. Not one for liking photos taken, he was a good sport, moving from place to place.

I have such hopes and dreams for this young boy. I am saddened to my very core that he doesn't have a father with better skills, and one who would be a better role model. I can't change his father, but I can continue to show him all the love I can, and let him know that love is unconditional.

To the boy who has six or seven kids in his classroom call him their "best friend" I present the last day of being six.

The weekend will be filled with fun. Boys and laser tag, pizza, laughter, basketball, and I will sit and try to press into my memory this precious boy who will no longer be six, but on his way to a sensational seven!

The dentist said to take some photos, his front teeth won't be with him much longer. He will never have this look again. Those tiny front teeth will soon be replaced by teeth that will seem too big for his mouth, it will be awkward, but it won't change how cute he is, or the sweetness within.

What a handsome young man- a very happy birthday to him!!! I can completely relate. With my oldest just turning 14 & recently going through some developments with all 3 of the kids- when I told my mom about some of them her reply was "no- not the baby, she's too young." I agree- she still looks like a small little girl- but she's growing up faster than I can help.

What a handsome young man, and these are such wonderful portraits! Time does go by so fast. It seems you turn around and they are all grown up.
